A London Travel Guide for Corporate Incentive Trips | BCD Meetings & Events

London is a truly unique city-a fantastic fusion of history and modernity imbued with culture, color and experiences, curated over two millennia. If London contained only landmarks such as Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, it would still rank as one of the world’s greatest destinations, but Britain’s capital is so much more.

Whether you’re looking for architecture or adventure, boutique meeting space or flashy exotic venues, a traditional British pub or afternoon tea, this crucible of diversity is bound to deliver. With numerous iconic landmarks, and a quintessential mix of classic English culture and relentless innovation, there will be an activity, hotel, venue and transport to fit any brief – London truly has something for everyone.

Getting there

With a population of 8.8 million, London is the largest city in the UK. It is the most ethnically diverse region in England, and it is estimated that over 300 different languages are spoken in the capital every day. Its location in the south east of the country, proximity to three of the country’s largest airports, and direct train links to Europe make it incredibly accessible. Not forgetting the experiences of London Underground, London buses and black cabs for getting around the city.

London is an incredible destination throughout the year. Whilst at times unpredictable, the seasonal changes to the mild English climate are never extreme. A magical winter visit spent perusing museums and galleries will feel different to a summer fling, exploring the parks and streets. Business, leisure, or a little bit of both; London can accommodate a variety of itineraries, trip objectives and travel budgets.

What to do

Nature Experiences

London has recently been named as the world’s first National Park City and, as we know, spending time outside is healthy and invigorating, and encouraging sustainable practice is more important than ever. So why not try one of these outdoor activities.

At just £2 for 24 hours London’s City bikes are a fantastic way of exploring. Meander along Regent’s Canal to visit Little Venice or London Fields, explore Richmond Park, or do a spot of sightseeing with ride along the banks of the Thames.

If cycling isn’t your thing perhaps attend an eco-friendly experience. Join a floristry masterclass, spend the day as a beekeeper, or book a tour of ‘Growing Underground’; the world’s first underground farm where they use the latest hydroponic systems and LED technology to sustainably grow mouth-wateringly fresh micro greens and salad - 33 meters below the bustling streets of Clapham.

Conclude your eco-friendly day with a spot of food at one of London’s most sustainable restaurants. The menu at ‘Native’ in Southwark Street offers a collection of delights created from the country's best wild foraged food and game; the tasting menu is designed to spotlight on whatever's currently flourishing in the UK’s fields, forests and coastlines. Or visit ‘The Spread Eagle’ London’s first vegan pub, where the food, drinks, fixtures and fittings are plant-based and sourced sustainably.

Cultural Experiences

In terms of cultural attractions London is a city without compare; there is always something explore, learn or admire.

Start with the incredible free museums that will be on your doorstep, the Victoria & Albert Museum, The National Gallery, Tate Modern, The National History Museum, The Wallace Collection and the Serpentine Galleries to name a few, each full of interest and opportunities to discover.

You can also experience the true impact of Shakespeare’s work whilst watching a play at The Globe Theatre. Stand in the Yard or sit in the lofty galleries to admire period actors bring these classic tales to life.
